Annual Report Fees Increased

Beginning July 1, 2020 the annual report fee paid to the secretary of state will increase from $20 to $80 for foreign and domestic limited partnerships, limited liability companies, and limited liability partnerships.   

Business Entity Tax Eliminated

Beginning January 1, 2020 the $250 business entity tax is eliminated. This tax is due every other taxable year for S Corporations, limited partnerships, and limited liability partnerships (LLPs) and companies (LLCs).  

Workplace Sexual Harassment Requirements

Businesses with as few as three employees must provide all workers with sexual harassment prevention training, which can be satisfied by a free online course developed by the Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities (CHRO). Other mandates and fines have been amended as well and can be viewed on the CHRO website. 

Paid Family and Medical Leave Changes

The new Family and Medical Leave Insurance (FMLI) program will provide wage replacement benefits to employees taking leave for approved reasons under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA). Employees will be eligible for up to 12 weeks of FMLI benefits over a 12-month period. Funding for the program will be through a 0.5% employee contribution beginning January 2021, with benefit payouts beginning January 2022
